For over 29 years in financial services, Joseph Volz has always strived to lock in for those he serves. Throughout his career, the people he serves have come to recognize Joe as a trustworthy, organized family man who always puts the best interests of his clients before all else to bring confidence to their financial lives.

While at Merrill Lynch, Joe developed a talent for locking in for executives at publicly traded companies by managing and diversifying their concentrated stock. He helped pioneer Pelorus as a boutique practice to help his clients identify potential issues with concentrated wealth, cope with the risks inherent to their corporate benefit and equity compensation plans, and, most importantly, to be free of undue corporate agendas. Joe backs his lifetime of experience up with a degree in Mathematics from the University of California Irvine and the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® certification. The industry has taken notice – Joe and the Pelorus Capital Management team were recognized by Forbes as a Best-In-State Wealth Management Team in both 2023 and 2024.

A lifelong athlete who grew up in Southern California, Joe can often be found locking into challenging bike rides, long runs, or early-morning surfing sessions with friends in his free time. He gives to organizations that reflect his interests, like the National Parks as well as animal and children’s charities. Joe also donates his time to the Huntington Beach community by coaching soccer in AYSO and Club level. His #1 passion in life outside of his career is being a good husband to his wife Erin and a stalwart father to their twin daughters, who often join him hiking, fishing, camping, and surfing. When relaxing, he enjoys simple things like a good meal and a nice bottle of wine with family and friends!

Wherever his career has taken him, Matt has always found joy in delivering the best experience for the people he was serving. After honing his customer-facing skills in the retail industry and proficiencies in analysis during internships focused on technology and risk management, his drive for improvement led him to rise from customer relationship advocate to investment management consultant in a mere 3 years at Fidelity Investments. Throughout it all, Matt learned the importance of a client first mentality and showing up as a dependable teammate who leads with collaboration, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to doing things the right way.

Matt graduated from Texas Christian University and has earned his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERⓇ certification as well as his Series 7, 63, and 66 registrations. When you meet Matt, be sure to ask him about his past life as a karateka - a practitioner and competitor of karate. From his early youth to his later teenage years, Matt won several national championships and took home the bronze medal when he competed as a member for TEAM USA at the international Jr Pan American Championships.

Family is at the core of everything for Matt; he credits his parents’ love and continual support to get them where he is today. Originally from Chicago, his move to Southern California to join the Pelorus team came with added joy - being closer to family in the area. In his free time, he enjoys cheering on the Cubs and Bears, playing golf and enjoying life with his friends.
